Abstract:
All LHC upgrade plans at CERN include a new H- Injector.
In 2007, a 3-MeV test stand will be built at CERN, utilizing a DESY style RF driven H- ion source, in order to support these upgrade plans. Understanding the transverse emittance of the ion source and RFQ will provide useful beam information for simulations and tuning of the test stand RFQ and eventually the new H- Linac. In order to make these measurements Low-Energy Emittance probes need to be constructed, tested and integrated into the 3-MeV test stand. Furthermore, by using the SNS probe design much can be gained in terms of Low-Energy Emittance comparisons between ion sources.
